Weather

With its year round sunshine and warm climate, Mauritius is truly a year-round destination. However, weather and temperatures do vary somewhat from season to season.

The summer months are traditionally October - March and the winter months April - August. Temperatures vary between 27°C and 30°C in the summer months and between 20°C and 25°C in the winter months. December to March are the most humid months and it is during these months that tropical storms may occur bringing bouts of thunderstorms.

Flying Time & Time Difference

The flying time to Mauritius from Johannesburg and Durban is approximately 4-hours and Mauritius is 2-hours ahead of South African time. Flights departing South Africa at approximately 09h30 would arrive in Mauritius at approximately 15h30 Mauritian time.

Recommended Dress

Dress is casual and cool with swimsuits and beachwear for the day, and smart-casual dress for evenings. In the winter months, evening temperatures may be slightly cooler and require a light jacket or sweater for evenings.

Currency

The local currency is the Mauritian Rupee and currency can be exchanged at hotels, the airport and Mauritian banks.

Language

English is the official language and is widely spoken and understood. French and Creole are used amongst the locals in everyday life.
